According to reports, Udo Ekpenyong, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, died from COVID-19 infections.
An officer of the State Government of Akwa Ibom, who did not want to reveal his identity, reported to Premium Times that Ekpenyong passed away in Uyo on Monday.
The officer stated that chairman had died of COVID-19, but this could not be verified independently.
Another source close to the government of Akwa Ibom also revealed Ekpenyong’s death on Tuesday morning to the news men.
“The source told the news men when asked by one of the reporter if the PDP chairman died of COVID-19, that he could not verify what killed Ekpenyong as “every death is now linked to COVID-19.
Late Mr Ekpenyong was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state before his election as the state PDP chairman last year. He was identified to be Governor Udom Emmanuel’s major ally.
Note that Akwa Ibom State has recently lost two other prominent people, former Air Staff Chief Nsikak Edouk,
who died of kidney failure, and former state military governor Idongesit Nkanga, who died of COVID 19.
