The leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has shifted the camp reopening date after the resurgence in the second phase of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the states, and has also prohibit all forms of religious gatherings in the orientation camps.
Dr Oyeladun Okunromade, NYSC’s Camp Safe Reopening Project Lead, revealed this at a sensitization briefing for the 2020 Batch B Stream II Corp Members on Friday.
‘Protecting the Health of the Nigerian Youth: Safe Reopening of NYSC Orientation Camps’ being the event theme is meant to enlighten the member of the Corps in advance of the camp program.
Okunromade said that on arriving at NYSC camps, corps members would resume 200 everyday and would be examined for Covid-19,
indicating that those who test positive for the virus would be isolated at approved NCDC health facilities while those who test negative would be allowed into the camps.
She said members of the corps are required to fill out certain forms on the NYSC website to book their resumption dates,
but members of the corps who do not resume risk resuming with the next batch at their allotted dates.
Any type of religious meeting in the camp will not take place. We encourage virtual activities,’ she stated. adding that members of the corps are
required to come to camp with their face masks and other personal protective materials, as they would not be provided by the NYSC.
She said members of the corps are asked to fill out certain forms on the NYSC website to book their resumption dates,
but members of the corps who do not resume risk resuming with the next batch at their assigned dates.
Therefore, in the initial stage of the second phase of the pandemic, she implored the corps members to be concerned
about health and security by complying with all Covid prevention protocols in NYSC camps and elsewhere.
Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the NYSC, along with Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), were present.
Speaking at the occasion, the NYSC DG said that the Service would not be reluctant to decamp any member of the corps who neglects to adhere strictly to Covid orientation camp protocols.
Ibrahim said members of the corps would be permitted from January 19, 2021, as compared to January 18, 2021, previously announced date, on NYSC approved camps nationwide.
